Project Details

Description

Short Work Statement:The PI will to organize a workshop to examine the feasibility and utility of next generation advances for building trustworthy components from untrustworthy commodity components such as FPGAs and Processors. This workshop will help ONR explore the path for future research direction in hardware related (chip, FPGA, processors and systems) systems~ security and dealing hardware supply chain attack. Objective:The objective for this effort is to examine the feasibility and utility of next generation advances for building trustworthy components from untrustworthy commodity components such as FPGAs and Processors.Approach:In this proposal the PI will organize workshop on hardware related systems~ security. The workshop will include ~thought leaders~ and practitioners in hardware security. The focus of workshop will be on increasing the assurance in commodity components used in embedded systems (FPGAs and microcontrollers) and servers (microprocessors, GPUs, accelerator cards) used in data centers broadly, and also specifically to types of systems used by the US Navy. A further focus will be on identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities with practical deployable solutions. This means that hardware security must be increased respecting traditional operating requirements such as performance, energy, power, and cost requirements.ONR Mission/Relevance:The workshop on hardware visioning will help ONR explore and evaluate research direction for improving our systems~ security and dealing hardware (chip, FPGA, processors and systems) supply chain attack.
