Project Details

Description

Bone provides structural support for the body, but more recently, scientists have found that it also has important endocrine functions, producing hormones to help regulate bodily processes. Dr. Berger is identifying new hormones derived from bone, finding the cells that generate these hormones within bone and designing novel therapeutics to enhance the bone endocrine system. This work may have widespread implications for diseases affected by the bone endocrine system, such as psychiatric diseases, neuromuscular junction disorders and metabolic syndromes.
