Project Narrative
Stem cells alternate between periods of dormancy, called quiescence, and active periods of cell division and
differentiation. I will investigate how the transition between these periods is regulated by the genes Pten and
Tor. Understanding how Pten and Tor regulate quiescence may help in the development of therapies for
cancer, aging, and diseases involving stem cell dysfunction.
