Project Details

Description

This award will support a three-day planning workshop, to be held in the Washington DC area, for a U.S. GEOTRACES effort in the Arctic Ocean. GEOTRACES is an international program with the goal of documenting and understanding the distribution of trace elements and their isotopes (TEIs) in the world's oceans. Implementation of the GEOTRACES mission is underway in much of the world's oceans. While the meeting will be largely focused on a U.S. effort, international participation will be encouraged. Workshop advertising and recruitment will be conducted through email lists including GEOTRACES, Ocean Carbon and Biogeochemistry (OCB) and ArcticInfo. The total number of workshop participants is estimated at 25 to 30. Planned results of the workshop are (1) a workshop report and (2) a U.S. GEOTRACES Arctic Ocean Implementation Plan.
