His real passion being infection control, he entered the area again as Director of Infection Control at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He has recently been appointed as an i:nstructor at the medical school. Half his responsibility at the University of Massachusetts is as director of educational program on acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) directed toward college students in central Massachusetts. This is a 5-year research study funded, by the National Institutes of Health to ascertain whether risk reduction strategies work to prevent human immunodeficiency virus infection and other sexually transmitted diseases among college students. Stleve served on the original Certification Board of Infection Control and as chairman of the test committee that developed the first certification examination.
