Abstract

This article describes a simplified method for the construction of a mold for an orbital prosthesis. Most techniques describe the use of complex three-(or more) piece molds, which require the use of the original ocular or separate duplicate ocular within the mold. This simplified technique duplicates the ocular so that it becomes part of the first half of the mold. Using an ocular analog joined to the mold has the advantages of decreasing the number of mold parts and ensuring the immobilization of the duplicate ocular during processing. Creating a mold with this technique also allows subsequent prostheses to be fabricated without using the original ocular.
