Abstract

Incarcerated youth represent a small, but highly vulnerable portion of the population. Health inequalities underscore their need for primary health care services upon experiencing incarceration. By understanding the juvenile justice system, the nurse practitioner can provide optimal health services, advocate for youth, and research interventions that improve outcomes.
