2011 Goldman-Rakic Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Cognitive Neuroscience

Proyecto

Detalles del proyecto

Description

To study the physiology of cognitive processes, Dr. Goldberg and his colleagues use single neuron recording and

psychophysics in awake monkeys. Current projects include an analysis of spatial memory in the parietal cortex, a

brain area involved in information processing, spatial orientation and visual perception. His team is working to elucidate

an arousal signal in parietal neurons that may be important in the neural networks predominantly affected by psychiatric

drugs. Other projects include the recent discovery of an environmental memory system in the parietal cortex, the

interaction of brain areas in visual attention and visual search, and the role of the newly identified cortical oculomotor

position-orienting system in spatial perception.
