Essential role of Stasimon in motor circuit development and disease

Neuronal control of movement is extensively studied not only because it underlies fundamental human behaviors  but  also  because  diseases  that  affect  the  motor  system  represent  a  significant  burden  for  human  health.  Stasimon is an ER--resident transmembrane protein with an important yet molecularly undefined role in health  and  disease  of  the  motor  system.  This  proposal  describes  a  multidisciplinary  effort  aimed  to  establish  the  essential requirement of Stasimon for motor function and its contribution to the neurodegenerative disease SMA  at the molecular, cellular and circuit levels.
