Description

LAMONT-DOHERTY EARTH OBSERVATORY WILL MEASURE THE OCEAN CAPILLARY-GRAVITY WAVES USING VISIBLE POLARIMETRY TECHNIQUES. THE MEASUREMENT PERIOD WILL TAKE PLACE IN SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER 2019. WE WILL DEPLOY THE TWO POLARIMETER CAMERA SYSTEMS FROM THE ASIT TOWER OF THE MARTHA S VINEYARD COASTAL OBSERVATORY. ONE POLARIMETER IS THE ORIGINAL INDUSTRY STANDAR 4-CAMERA SYSTEM WITH EFFICIENT POLARIZING BEAMSPLITTERS THROUGH A SINGLE OPTIC. A SECOND POLARIMETER IS A NEW NEXT GENERATION SYSTEM THAT USES A SINGLE CAMERA WITH POLARIZED DETECTOR. BOTH CAMERAS ACHIEVE THE SAME SPATIAL RESOLUTION DOWN TO 1 MM. WE WILL PERFORM A NUMBER OF DAY-LONG SIDE-BY-SIDE MEASUREMENT COMPARISONS BETWEEN THE TWO POLARIMETER SYSTEMS TO DEMONSTRATE COMPARABLE OR IDENTICAL PERFORMANCE.
