Description

and to the extension of the stable operational space of steady-state hybrid plasmas for ITER, and potential future DEMO, and Fusion Nuclear Science Facility application. During the FY2019 to FY2022 program period, we will focus our research in three areas:
  • Stability and simultaneous control of multiple low-n kink mode
  • MHD stability of inductive scenarios
  • Stability and performance of steady-state plasmas for high-βN reactor operation.

These research areas will contribute to long-term DIII-D programmatic goals of demonstrating operational scenarios with increased fidelity to burning plasma conditions, optimizing high-βN, steady-state advanced tokamak (AT) regimes, and demonstrating integrated, physics-based stability control and disruption avoidance.
