Description

PROJECT NARRATIVE In the United States, tropical cyclones, such as hurricanes and tropical storms, have a devastating effect on society, yet a comprehensive assessment of their health impacts is still lacking. The proposed research is relevant to public health because it focuses on quantifying the hospitalization and mortality burden of tropical cyclones while also characterizing physical factors that drive differences in impacts on vulnerable communities. The results of this project are expected to greatly benefit understanding of the health impacts of tropical cyclone exposure, and create actionable results that identify the most vulnerable communities, closely aligned with NIEHS's mission and Strategic Plan.
