N2 - Food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (FDEIA), a subtype of exercise-induced anaphylaxis (EIA), is underdiagnosed and unreported. FDEIA is unpredictable and difficult to diagnose because its manifestation relies on the presence of several modifiable factors but can be fatal for the individual if not properly assessed and treated. A proper diagnosis of FDEIA will help prevent unnecessary food and exercise limitations and provide a patient with FDEIA an adaptable lifestyle. The purpose of this article is to review FDEIA characteristics, diagnostic tools, management, and the role of the nurse practitioner in diagnosing and caring for children or adolescents with suspected FDEIA.
