Description
Patients with COVID-19 critical illness are at risk for developing venous and arterial thrombotic events. Research to date has shown that multiple potential vascular complications related to COVID-19 in both the arterial and venous systems. We propose to study the frequency and predictors of thrombotic events in hospitalized patients. This will be achieved in two primary ways. First, we will study the natural history of the COVID-19 patients with thrombotic disease stratifying by ICU and non ICU patients. We will then use this information to develop a risk score to help stratify patients who may benefit from more intensive anticoagulant therapy. Secondly, we will perform a randomized controlled trial to elucidate the degree of anticoagulation intensity that is most beneficial for ICU patients. (AHA Program: Covid-19 Rapid Response)
