Clinicopathologic correlates of cognitive impairment in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia spectrum disorders (ALS-FTD)

PROJECT NARRATIVE Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia (ALS-FTD) is a disorder that can cause progressive paralysis, dementia or a combination of these motor and cognitive symptoms. What determines whether or not a patient with ALS-FTD will have cognitive symptoms is currently poorly understood. This proposal uses novel genomics methods to understand what molecular pathways contribute to the development of cognitive impairment in ALS-FTD patients.
