Détails sur le projet

Description

Long Island University School of Nursing (LIUSON), in collaboration with Columbia University Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC), proposes to recruit Caribbean American advanced practice nurses to enroll in a 15 credit hour, Post-Master's certificate program that prepares them to do culturally-sensitive, age-and literacy-appropriate teaching about cancer prevention lifestyle changes and screening activities. Students in the pilot program will also be required to take at least 1 course (as a non-matriculating student) at Columbia University Mailman's School of Public Health to enhance their knowledge of health prevention behaviors. Students will develop teaching strategies that we hypothesize will motivate behavioral changes that can decrease the risk for all types of cancers within the Caribbean American population. They will conclude their program of studies by presenting the results of their assessment of the short-term effects of their teaching interventions.
