Détails sur le projet
Description
Gains in educational achievement and advances in the economic and social standing of women have been distinguishing features of the 20th and early 21st centuries. For an upcoming issue of the new RSF Journal, economist Martha Bailey and sociologist Thomas DiPrete will organize a symposium featuring nine articles that examine both the determinants of these important economic and social changes, as well as their consequences. Bailey and DiPrete will serve as the guest editors for this issue, which will examine women's economic equality and financial independence as well as their labor market outcomes. It will also consider changes in family structure that have transformed the economic and social functions of marriage and the living circumstances of children, and changes in the political, legal, and cultural status of women. Selected papers will focus on organizational practices, working hours, and the gender wage gap, the family gap at work, the division of labor, work in non-traditional women's occupations and STEM fields, as well as the broader implications of the changing roles and the status of women for politics.
